Jose Valverde’s night to forget

Astros closer Jose Valverde had one of those nights on Monday. Actually, a nightmare. He entered in the ninth inning with a 3-2 lead over the Pirates. In one-third of an inning Valverde was hammered for homers by Jason Bay and Adam LaRoche, en route to giving up six earned runs and five hits. Ouch! The final was 9-3 as Pittsburgh pounded 18 hits in a game that saw the teams combine for 25 left on base.
