The first-place New York Mets
July 24th, 2008
Hangover? What hangover? After the Tuesday meltdown at Shea, everyone had the Mets in deep, deep trouble. But baseball is one game where momentum seems to last until the next game. And Amazin’ly, the Mets bounced back and took the last two from the Phighting Phils and move into the penthouse in the NL East. For all the flaws over how the Willie Randolph firing was handled, Jerry Manuel has proven to be the man at Shea. While there is no guarantee this cast of characters will keep it together and stay atop the division, it is a remarkable improvement from the Randolph era. Kudos to Manuel for a job well done so far. And who would believe that the New York team in the division lead resides in Queens and not the Bronx?
