Patrick Ewing, Pat Riley Hall of Famers
September 6th, 2008
Nice of Ewing and Riley to go in together. Riley paid tribute to his wife by reciting some lines from Bruce Springsteen’s beautiful "Back in Your Arms."
As for Ewing, okay he belongs in the Hall of Fame. However, as far as we are concerned, Patrick Ewing and Charles Oakley are New York’s answer to Ernie Banks and Billy Williams. Lots of numbers over wonderful careers but no championship to show for it. Ewing was no Willis Reed and Oakley is no Dave DeBusschere. Sorry, folks. Those are legends. They define the Knicks. The Ewing-Oakley era defined heartache and in so many ways disappointment. Individual success does not translate into legend. Disagree?
