College Football Saturday

This wasn’t the biggest game by far but it was the most amazing individual performance. Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick rolls up 416 yards total offense… by himself. Kaepernick throws for 176 yards and two touchdowns and rushes for 240 yards and three scores as Nevada totals 618 yards in a 49-27 win over UNLV.

How tough is the SEC? Houston Nutt brings Ole Miss into Florida and walks out with a 31-30 victory. Damn. The Gators have a PAT blocked and are stuffed by th Rebels on a late fourth-down play.

In the ACC, Butch Davis returned to Miami and hung one on the Hurricanes as North Carolina continues to improve. And, Maryland and Chris Turner — the QB’s dad was the original drummer in RATT - stuck it to Tommy Bowden and Clemson.

Think the world hasn’t gone mad? How about Northwestern 5-0 for the first time in 46 years after a win over Iowa? And Kirk Ferentz’s stock has fallen almost as fast as Greg Schiano’s. And, Duke is 3-1 after a 31-3 destruction of Al Groh and Duke. By the way, the Blue Devils’ only loss is a four-pointer to — you got it — Northwestern. First time Duke, Northwestern and Vandy have three wins each in the month of September. Nice of Navy to pop Wake Forest, too. The Middies are always a tough out.

Syracuse was leading Pitt into the fourth quarter, but Greg Robinson is 8-32 after the Panthers rallied for a 34-24 victory in a near-vacant Carrier Dome. Scary how far the program has fallen.

Javon Ringer runs for 198 as Michigan State stops Indiana. As for the Dazed in Blue, they turned into the Amaized and Blue in the second half with a huge comeback against Wisconsin at halftime. How is Ann Arbor, Rich Rodriguez? Having fun in the Big House?

Fresno State hangs another one on Rick Neuheisel, 36-31. Ouch, Pac-10!

Having a good time in Fayetteville, Mr. Petrino?

Nice of Georgia to show up for the home game with Alabama. Too bad the ‘Dawgs arrived for the second half. Give Nick Saban credit. Whatever he does in college, he does right. LSU did what it had to do — win. Still, have to be concerned with Miss. State getting 24 points. That could be an ominous sign.

Derreck Williams was a stud recruit for Penn State when JoePa landed him. As a senior, he is a crown jewel, becoming first player in Paterno Era to score three different ways in a single game as the Lions roll past the Illini. Penn State could be a force in the Big Ten, which seems to be parity city.

Three coaches who don’t want to see much of their ADs:Phil Fulmer, Ty Willingham and Greg Robinson.

Notre Dame downed Purdue as Golden Tate and Michael Floyd look like the real deal at wideouts. Could be just what Jimmy Clausen needs. That and a creampuff schedule.

Sam Bradford to Chase Daniel: Your move. The Oklahoma QB dissects the No. 1 defense in the nation as Sooners roll over TCU.
