Tim McCarver slams Manny Ramirez

Manny Ramirez put the Los Angeles Dodgers on his back and helped carry them to the NL West title and a first-round sweep of the Chicago Cubs. However, Tim McCarver isn’t singing the slugger’s praises. McCarver, a former Phillie, told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Ramirez’s act in Boston was "despcable."

"It’s extraordinary - the dichotomy between what he was in Boston and what he is in Los Angeles," McCarver told the paper. "I mean, talk about wearing out your welcome in a town, and it was a long welcome with the Red Sox. But some of the things he did were simply despicable, despicable - like not playing, refusing to play. Forgetting what knee to limp on. And now it’s washed, it’s gone."

Hope that Manny is smart enough to stay away from the announcer and keep out of trouble. It got McCarver a headline and some press, but it shouldn’t be worth Ramirez’s while to pick a  battle with the mike. He can’t win and he does have the free agency cha-ching to worry about.

Man-Ram won’t dare pick up the mic to confront McCarver, and I’d be willing to bet he wouldn’t know what to do with it except swing it at McCarver’s head. The dude is an idiot savant–his one talent, other than irritating the shit out of his teammates and the media–is hitting a baseball. When he talks he sound like the idiot he is. Fuck him: I hope he carries the Dodgers all the way to the WCS and then chokes on a Papelbon fastball…or takes one or three of them in the ribs. Then he can rightfully claim that he’s hurt. What an asshole. Props to McCarver for stepping up and saying something about it. Why can’t anyone outside Boston take a stand for what’s right? Everyone in baseball knows what went down, but god forbid they talk smack about Manny. Bad for ratings, i guess.
