Detroit Lions finally win one
Not on the field, of course. This victory came in court and it is an expensive one. The lowly Detroit Lions have won a judgment of $8.5 million against former first-round bust Charles Rogers. The Michigan State wide receiver was a total disaster after being selected second overall out of Michigan State in 2003. He caught 36 passes for 440 yards with four touchdowns in his short stay. He was suspended by the NFL in 2005 for substance abuse, his third strike. The Lions sought a pro-rated portion of the $14.2 million bonus he received when he inked the six-year contract. They wanted $10.2 million but will have to be happy with $8.5 million that is if Rogers has the dough or decides to cough it up. According to the Mlive.com report, in 2005 Rogers said, "It’s going to be hard to get $10 million.'’
So, as the season and story goes: even when the Lions win, they find a way to lose. No telling whether Mike Williams, Matt Millen or Joey Harrington will be next.
